For In-Person Attendees

Where can I find helpful Caltech visitor information?

Click here for resources to help plan your visit and find directions, maps, and links to local accommodations. Event parking details will also be provided in the final email to all Seminar Day guests, sent in the week prior to the event.

Where do I check in?

Pick up your Seminar Day credentials at the check-in booths on Beckman Mall. Registration will be organized by guest last name.  

 

Will breakfast and lunch be provided?

Yes. Your registration includes a continental breakfast and a picnic lunch.  

 

How do I ask the presenters questions during the session?

Both in-person and virtual guests will use the Slido application to ask questions or vote for another guest’s question during Seminar Day. No downloads or apps required, you can simply use your phone to scan the unique QR code or enter passcode shown during each session.

 

What can I visit during the Campus Showcase and lunch break?

Selected labs and featured campus locations will be open for guest visits during the two-hour lunch break. Labs will be announced soon. Labs may have guest count limits and require specific attire to enter. Your Seminar Day name tag is required for entry to all buildings.

I am no longer able to attend in-person at Caltech, can I switch to virtual participation?

Yes, you can register to join virtually. Virtual registration is available here and will remain open throughout Seminar Day on May 18.

For Virtual/Zoom Participants

What is the virtual events platform for Seminar Day?

All sessions will livestream via Zoom. Login details will be sent to all registered virtual participants the week prior to the event.

 

Can I use my phone to join Seminar Day?

Yes. Although viewing on a computer is recommended for the best experience, you may use whatever device is compatible with your Zoom application, including your mobile device, tablet, or computer.

 

Will closed captioning be available?

Yes, Zoom provides automated closed captioning for live sessions. During the webinar, click on the Closed Caption(CC) button along the bottom of your Zoom window for options. Click here for detailed Zoom support for viewing captions in a webinar.

 

If I am joining virtually, can I ask questions during the session?

Can I switch to in-person attendance?

You may switch from virtual to the $65 in-person registration until the May 3 deadline. No changes can be made after the in-person registration deadline.

 

I am having difficulty logging in or accessing the platform on event day. What should I do?

Check that you have the correct Zoom link and webinar passcode, provided in your final Seminar Day details email from Caltech Alumni Relations. For the best experience, ensure your Zoom application has the most updated version prior to event day.

General Zoom Support and Troubleshooting Tips:

 

I am having difficulty hearing the presentation. What should I do?

If you are experiencing audio problems on your desktop or mobile app, these steps may help you troubleshoot Zoom audio issues:

  • Check your device to ensure microphone, speakers, or headphones are plugged in and not muted.
  • Check headphone connectivity, especially for Bluetooth devices.
  • Test your audio.
  • Check audio settings and make sure that correct audio output is selected, and adjust the sound or volume settings.

 

What are the participant guidelines for this event?  

Use the Honor Code as your guide for virtual participation on Seminar Day. Be professional, considerate, and respectful to other guests and speakers. Participate fully in the virtual experience and help make Seminar Day a success for fellow Techers and yourself.

What is the Caltech Honor Code?

The Caltech Honor Code guides participation in Caltech AlumniAssociation events, programming, and digital marketing channels such as social media: No member of the Caltech community shall take unfair advantage of any other member of the Caltech community.

 

Will recordings of each session be available for viewing post-event?

Yes, each session will be recorded and made available exclusively to registered Seminar Day guests after the day ends. Links to the recordings will be shared via email after the event.
