Bob passed away suddenly of natural causes on September 23, 2012 in San Jose. He was born in Boulder City, Nevada on November 11, 1948 to Robert Charles & Gertrude E. Krejci Allen. He attended school in Boulder City and then in Tollhouse, California, graduating from Sierra High School. He then graduated from California Institute of Technology in engineering. Moving to Denver he and several Cal Tech friends started a small business named NBI. When this business went public he was able to retire very early and moved to rural Missouri, living the life of a gentleman rancher for 20 years.

As a unique individual he built a partially underground home and enjoyed a happy early retirement during his time in Missouri. Then as sometimes happens, Bob suffered financial setbacks and needed to make a fresh start.  He moved to San Jose in 2001 and worked as a security  guard, most recently at The Tech Museum of Innovation.

There he was able to indulge his love of science and of all things technical. He had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed life.

Bob is survived by his sister Carol Allen Hungerford, brother in law Rich Hungerford, nephews Craig Hungerford (Sandi) and Matt Hungerford (Jenny), great niece Megan Hungerford and great nephews Joshua, Jason and Skyler Hungerford.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 20, 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 5038 Hyland Ave, San Jose. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Doctors Without Borders or to The Nature Conservancy.
