Caltech Together: San Diego Second Sunday

Hike to Palomar Observatory
Join fellow Techers and Caltech alumnus Matthias Blume (’87) for a scenic hike through Palomar Mountain to Caltech’s Palomar Observatory.
This 5-mile round-trip hike takes you through forest trails with views of Mendenhall Valley and approximately 800 feet of elevation gain and loss. The destination is a highlight of the experience: a chance to explore Caltech’s Palomar Observatory, home to the iconic 200-inch Hale Telescope. Discover the observatory’s grounds, visit the visitor center, and step into the viewing gallery for a look at the telescope that has helped astronomers explore the universe for decades.
