At the 88th annual Seminar Day on Saturday, host Sandra Tsing Loh announced this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award—Caltech’s highest honor for alumni achievement. The 2025 honorees are:
- Deborah D.L. Chung (BS ’73, MS ’73) – for pioneering work in multifunctional structural materials and smart concrete
- Athanassios Fokas (PhD ’79) – for mathematical and biomedical contributions spanning science, medicine, and public communication
- F. William Studier (PhD ’63) – for inventions foundational to modern biotechnology and genetic research
- Donald Truhlar (PhD ’70) – for advances in quantum chemistry and modeling of chemical interactions
These alumni exemplify the Institute’s values: rigorous inquiry, creative application, and service to society.
