Caltech Together: San Diego Second Sunday (July 2025)

Held on the second Sunday of every month, this hike explores scenic trails across the region. This month, join fellow alumni for a challenging 12-mile out-and-back hike to El Cajon Mountain on Sunday, July 13, at 7 a.m. Expect about 3,800 feet of elevation gain, steep inclines and declines in both directions, and sweeping views from the summit.

What to bring

• At least three liters of water
• Hiking shoes with strong traction
• Sun protection
• Trekking poles (recommended)

Timing and meetup

• Trailhead meetup: El Cajon Mountain Trailhead at 7 a.m. sharp to beat the heat
• Optional carpool: Meet at Carmel Mountain Preserve parking lot near CA-56 at 6:30 a.m.
