Caltech in Austin

Connect with Techers in Austin + Lab Tour
Techers in the Austin area are invited to join fellow alumni, postdoctoral scholars, parents, and members of the Caltech community for a Saturday gathering at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center on the University of Texas campus. The event will include a lunch and opportunities to connect with Techers across the Austin area. The program will also include a guided lab tour led by Assistant Professor Kurtis Carsch (BS ’16, MS ’16), offering a look at current research in inorganic chemistry and materials science.

Kurtis Carsch
Kurtis Carsch (BS ’16, MS ’16) leads a research program in inorganic chemistry and materials science. His group focuses on catalysis for pharmaceutical development, chemical separations for energy-efficient purification, and materials with opposing properties such as mobility and rigidity.
The guided lab tour will take place in the Norman Hackerman Building and highlight the Carsch Group’s research and instrumentation. The lab uses chemical synthesis and spectroscopy to study small molecules and polymeric materials, with capabilities including air-free manipulation, gas binding analysis, nanoparticle isolation, and purification of complex organic mixtures.
