CHIP Gets Two Awards, Places Sixth Overall in Solar Decathalon

CHIP, the joint entry of Caltech and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in the Department of Energy's Solar Decathalon, garnered two awards in the national competition, placing 3rd in affordability, and 2nd in engineering. When the (saw)dust had settled, the team places 6th overall in a field of 19 teams.

Students from the two schools have been working for over a year on the striking design and startling engineering for CHIP (Compact Hyper-Insulated Prototype).
