Michael Aschbacher To Receive The Rolf Schock Prize in Mathematics

In early November, Michael Aschbacher (BS '66), Caltech's Shaler Arthur Hanisch Professor of Mathematics, an innovator in the abstract field of group theory will receive the $75,000 Rolf Schock prize in mathematics from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for his pivotal role in proving the Classification Theorem of Finite Groups, aka the Enormous Theorem.

The Rolf Schock Prizes are triennial and are awarded in the fields of logic and philosophy, mathematics, the visual arts and the musical arts.
