Julia applies stable isotope methods to answer an array of ecological\, physiological\, and evolutionary questions. Her research program lies at the intersection of paleontology\, organismal biology\, and geochemistry\, and combines laboratory experiments and fieldwork in understudied regions\, such as western Amazonia and the Central Andes. \n\nJulia started her academic life as a paleontologist at the Natural History Museum of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima\, Peru. After completion of her undergraduate studies\, she moved to the USA where she earned an MS from the University of Florida\, an MA and MPhil from Columbia University\, and a PhD from Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. DESCRIPTION:Mentorship\, Career Conversations\, and Culinary Science\nExperience a day of mentorship\, career exploration\, and shared Caltech perspectives at the exclusive Bay Area Professional Summit. \nThis event is designed for mentors and mentees to participate in small-group discussions and share insights\, experiences\, and career advice — all facilitated by Caltech Career Achievement\, Leadership\, and Exploration (CALE). Come for the whole day or just the networking hour and culinary science night with Harold McGee (DAA ’10\, BS ’73) and Tom Mannion.  \nShuttle service to the venue in San Francisco will be provided to those in the Peninsula area. Pick-up location and time to be determined. \nEvening ProgramConnect with the Caltech community over food and conversation\, and enjoy an engaging culinary science demonstration exploring the how and why behind cooking. The evening program features Tom Mannion\, Caltech’s Senior Director of Student Activities and Programs and instructor in Cooking and Food Science\, and Harold McGee\, acclaimed food science author of On Food and Cooking. He lives in San Francisco.
