We are pleased to announce the 2026 board-nominated slate for the Caltech Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Update from July 10, 2025:

After our announcement on May 30, Dr. David Peisner MD (BS’74) submitted a qualifying number of petitions to trigger an election under §6.02 of the Association bylaws. Dr. Peisner was the only petitioning candidate. Conducting a canvassed election with over 26,000 alumni would have incurred over $45,000 in direct costs as well as precious staff time. The board decided, in accordance with §4.02(a) and §4.07 of the bylaws, to expand the size of the board and nominate Dr. Peisner to this open seat starting in September 2025. This avoids the costs of the canvassed election and allows the association to focus on connecting and serving alumni.

Dr. Peisner most recently helped organize his class reunion. We look forward to working with him in the near future.

Previous announcement from May 30, 2025:

We are pleased to announce the 2026 board-nominated slate for the Caltech Alumni Association Board of Directors. Our directors serve as stewards of the Association’s funds and mission, bringing their professional skills and alumni experiences to the table. Directors advise on the programming for over 26,000 living alumni. A Nominations Proposal Committee composed of 10 non-board alumni and six current board members—reviewed and interviewed 19 candidates. The full Board of Directors approved the following slate of directors:

Board-Nominated Members:

Ken Diest (PhD ’10)

Daina Paulikas, MBA, MS (BS ’02)

SK Sharma (PhD ’05)

Nate Thomas (PhD ’19)

Amanda Cashin (PhD ’06) – returning

David E. Chavez, PhD (BS ’96) – returning

Rebecca Adler Miserendino, PhD (BS ’06)

Frederic Caldwell (BS ’96), Vice Chair, Leadership

Jay Turner, MBA/MS (BS ’01)

We were fortunate to have a rich pool of candidates nominated through the online form available year-round. The Nominations Proposal Committee nominates candidates after jointly examining the board’s composition, identifying needed professional skills, and interviewing each candidate. Directors will join the board unless an election occurs pursuant to §6.02 of the Association bylaws.

Nomination Process and Committee Composition

The process of choosing board members each year to fill vacancies starts with the selection of a Nominations Proposal Committee (NPC). In this board election cycle, it was decided to have alumni nominate themselves, or another alum, for a position. We were pleased to receive 17 applications, including three from outside the U.S for the NPC. Learn more about the process and criteria for the NPC.

A message on resources and response for the Caltech community from Thomas F. Rosenbaum, Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and Professor of Physics.

To: The Caltech Community
From: Thomas F. Rosenbaum Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and Professor of Physics

We end a devastating week sustained by the care and resolve of the Caltech community, yet sobered by the scale of loss and the long recovery ahead.

First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to students, staff, and faculty—as well as our wider community of first responders, elected officials, public agencies, alumni, parents, and friends—who have rallied individually and collectively to protect each other’s safety, the region’s well-being, and Caltech’s mission of research and education.

As of this writing, at least 200 Caltech community members have lost their homes to the fires that continue to burn throughout the Pasadena and Greater Los Angeles areas. Thousands more have been displaced, and still others face power outages, poor air quality, and other challenges.

Today’s limited reopening of campus has meant that members of the Caltech community who have been without power, water, and Internet may more readily access these services, including newly established charging stations and showers in the athletic facilities. We are working hard to aggregate additional resources and to provide information to those who wish to contribute to recovery efforts.

To that end, a Caltech and JPL Disaster Relief fund has been established to assist our colleagues—students, postdocs, staff, faculty and JPLers—who have lost their homes or who have been met with other hardship in the wake of this emergency. The needs are acute and we know that the members of our community will do what they can to lessen the burdens brought by disaster.

The region’s historic fires pose no direct threat to campus at present. Debris and other hazards created by recent winds have been cleared, and we are addressing limited damage to campus buildings. As we prepare to resume classes on Monday, January 13, we continue to monitor residences and classrooms to ensure that air quality levels are safe and mental and physical health services are available. Dining services and athletic facilities are up and operating.

You can find updates through the Caltech Alerts system and posted online at caltech.edu/emergency. Please remain vigilant in your care for yourselves and one another.

From: Thomas F. Rosenbaum, Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and Professor of Physics
Date: January 8, 2025
Re: Fires

The Eaton, Palisades, and Hurst fires are impacting members of our community to devastating effect as they continue to burn in and around Pasadena and the Greater Los Angeles areas. I want to make sure that you know that Caltech stands ready to help as best as we can and to make sure that you have the information available to protect your safety and well-being.

While neither the campus nor JPL have been affected directly by flames as of this writing, we know that hundreds of colleagues, friends, and family members are under mandatory evacuation orders and that, for some, homes have been lost. We expect significant impact to our community in the hours and days ahead, and we have a variety of support services available.

No injuries have been reported on campus where power is on, students are safe, and students and essential personnel have access to food, water, masks, and other safety items. We are closely monitoring air quality and wind damage, clearing downed trees, and installing charcoal filters in buildings. We have developed back-up plans in case an evacuation is mandated.

To those of you who live in fire-impacted areas, please keep apprised of evacuation orders and other guidance from local authorities. Campus updates are being distributed via the Caltech Alerts system and are posted online at caltech.edu/emergency.

In this time of hardship, loss, and uncertainty, I know that we can depend on the collegiality, caring, and resilience of our community. Thank you for all that you do for Caltech.

Five new members have been elected to the Caltech Alumni Association’s (CAA) Board of Directors. John S. Abbott III (BS ’74), Rebecca Adler Miserendino (BS ’06), Edgardo Garcia Berrios (PhD ’11), Zachary A. Rivkin (BS ’14), and Jay Turner (BS ’01) will serve three years. They join Frederic Caldwell (BS ’96), Tara Gomez-Hampton (PhD ’11), Miral Kim-E (BS ’78), Jasmine Soria Sears (BS ’12), and Elizabeth Lee Stameshkin (BS ’03) who were re-elected to the board.

“I am excited to work with the breadth of perspective and talent that our new board members bring,” says CAA Board Chair Dan Liebling (BS ’02). “Together, we are committed to addressing the needs of our alumni, including pursuing more opportunities for meaningful connections for the Techer community. As we plan for long-term success, we will work to address the financial sustainability of the organization and explore more ways to engage with current students and welcoming them into the alumni community.”

Directors serve as stewards of the Association’s mission and funds, leveraging their professional skills and experiences as Institute alumni to help guide and shape strategic services and programming. The board’s 2024-2025 officers include: Liebling as chair; Gomez-Hampton as vice chair, Finance; Kim-E as vice chair, Governance; and Caldwell as vice chair, Leadership and Outreach.

“The Alumni Relations team looks forward to collaborating closely with Chair Liebling and the board in casting the widest net possible to connect with alumni,” says Mario Peraza, assistant vice president for alumni relations and chief executive officer for the CAA. “Whether you graduated in 2024 or 50 years ago, all Techers should feel a strong sense of connection to their alma mater.”

As a new board member, Abbott is looking for opportunities to listen, learn, and help. “The CAA board needs to keep the interests of fellow alumni foremost, work collaboratively to build on the strengths that make Caltech unique, and continually improve our Association,” he says. One example, according to Abbott, is strengthening the Association’s finances to enhance programs that connect alumni regionally and encourage them to return to campus. Recalling his time as an undergraduate, Abbott shares a favorite memory of renting camping equipment from the Caltech Y and taking a weekend study break with a classmate friend on Henninger Flats near Mt. Wilson.

A key priority for Adler Miserendino is to collaborate with the Association staff and fellow board members to enrich the experience of the entire Caltech community, including fostering connections with current students. “I envision creating more opportunity for Caltech alumni to engage with one another while increasing the visibility and awareness of what is happening on campus,” she says. These opportunities could include more in-person networking events, increasing awareness of alumni achievements, and enhancing the use of online platforms to communicate. As an undergrad, you might have encountered Adler Miserendino and friends in the steam tunnels with professional-grade climbing gear headed to an undisclosed campus location for a late-night adventure.

Garcia Berrios would like to increase a sense of connection for alumni through the sharing of stories and experiences. “When I was on campus last June, I felt that sense of community that we can bring back through stories and photos to alumni,” he says. He recalls as a student caller for the Caltech Fund that alumni would ask about his student experience and request campus updates. As an alumnus, he also re-engaged with the Institute after reading a Caltech story that featured a friend with whom he had lost touch. Garcia Berrios also counts interaction with leading faculty, such as Harry B. Gray, as some of his favorite student memories. “You read about these people in textbooks and then all of a sudden you see them on campus and they know you.”

“Caltech has been a cornerstone of my life, and my commitment to its community runs deep,” says Rivkin. One of his top priorities is to “seismically increase” alumni connectivity with each other and Caltech. In addition to serving on the CAA board, he also serves on the board for the Caltech Associates. Rivkin envisions helping to increase alumni engagement by fostering quality friendships among Techers and encouraging alumni to share their wisdom with the next generation. While there are too many favorite “only-at-Caltech” student memories to choose from, Rivkin points to meeting epic people as an undergraduate—whether it was faculty, trustees, or introducing President Rosenbaum at a campus event in his role at ASCIT president.

Turner returns to the board after temporarily serving as a member in late 2022 and early 2023. One of his key priorities will be to improve the board election process and seek areas to reduce expenses. In addition, as one of the hosts for the inaugural Table for Techers, he is thinking of additional ways to encourage alumni engagement. “I think the Association can continue to expand efforts to support local alumni chapters for both in-person and virtual networking events,” he says. Turner also suggests exploring opportunities to involve alumni in campus events such as Ditch Day, which he counts among some of his favorite Caltech memories.

35% increase in alumni event engagement since Fiscal Year 2022

Alumni engaged from 44 states and 14 countries since Fiscal Year 2022

Alumni attendees from myriad generations and classes, from the 1940’s to 2024 Graduates – an 80-Year Span

Caltech’s experiential alumni program engagement ranks in the top 10% among peer institutions

As we continue to grow alumni services and programming that are aligned with the diversity of our alumni community, I am excited to share the Board-Approved Slate of candidates for the CAA’s Board of Directors and Officers. This year’s Board-Approved Slate brings a wealth of experience and expertise, with candidates selected based on the following criteria necessary to continue to bring you strong and relevant programming:

Dedication to Serving All Alumni

Proof of Consistent Service and Commitment to the CAA and/or Caltech

Positive Advocacy and Ambassadorship on Behalf of the CAA and/or Caltech

Experience in Partnership-Building and Collaborative Leadership

In selecting this year’s slate, the Nomination Committee and Board seek to ensure that the CAA continues to provide meaningful and valuable programming, events, and initiatives designed to engage alumni and alumni families around the world and from all walks of life.

This year’s ballot also includes five self-nominated candidates for Director and two self-nominated candidates for Officer positions, thus necessitating an election. It is important to note that all self-nominated candidates were carefully considered by the Nominations Committee, but ultimately were not selected for appointment to the Board. In addition, the costs necessary to conduct this year’s election have substantially diminished funding for alumni programs and services: namely, the cancellation of two regional alumni events that impacted over 1,000 alumni. By relying on the thoughtfully selected, Board-approved candidates, we will be able to continue our positive collaboration with the Institute to deliver innovative programs that benefit our unique alumni community.

Before you cast your vote, please make sure it is an informed one: as part of the CAA Board Election Process, nominees’ relevant information is available on the CAA website (alumni.caltech.edu/techer-news/2025-caa-board-slate) during the Open Ballot period, which closes on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm (PT). The ten Director candidates and four Officer candidates with the largest number of votes will be officially elected and announced at the Annual Meeting of Members on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 6:00 pm (PT).

Your vote in this year’s election is vital and will help shape the future direction of our Association as we continue to serve and build a vibrant, inclusive alumni community. Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement.

Caltech has provided us with opportunities as well as rigorous training. I worked with Caltech graduates throughout my career at Corning and see the role of Caltech in a lot of successes at Corning and other companies. The CAA board needs to keep the interests of fellow alumni foremost, work collaboratively to build on the strengths that make Caltech unique, and continually improve our association. I have nine years of experience on a school board and know how effective a board acting together in consensus can be. The CAA board asks nominees for opinions on priorities and issues facing CAA, ideas for technical activities, and suggestions for development initiatives or strategic partnerships. The CAA board needs to become much more transparent with membership, and prudent regarding finance and program offerings. Engaging alumni is important; regionally organized events complement on-campus events and connect to a broader Techer community. Centrally organized events like the Tables for Techers add additional potential. CAA could consider joint technical or social events with other strong technical schools like Stanford/MIT/Carnegie-Mellon to further increase networking and CAA/Caltech goals. CAA can utilize alumni volunteers as event organizers to reduce costs, increase engagement, and support broader Caltech goals. We need to return to a strong Seminar Day program aligned with class reunions. Thank you for your support!

I recently visited Caltech (March 2024) because my children requested it. They wanted to have live images of the Laboratories, the Campus, etc., so they could make a connection between my stories and views of the physical locations. During this visit, I realized that Caltech continues to develop new stories, and moves on once students graduate. I felt nostalgia, so I thought about how alumni can, even though Caltech continues to move on, share and experience the positive feelings about their unique Caltech academic career. I believe that one of the key aspects for the Caltech Alumni is their journey to and after Caltech. We should develop avenues for alumni to share their unique stories, whether it is a magazine page, a video link, or a forum. Some alumni met their significant other at Caltech, and some even welcomed new life while at Caltech. Other important stories might include groups of alumni, such as summer research mentors, or post-doc and students working together, the surfing club, Caltech-Y adventures, TV and movies recorded on Campus, interviews from Stephen Hawking or Keanu Reeves, etc. I believe that for Caltech alumni to stay engaged with their alma mater, and establish business and strategic partnerships, CAA should prioritize the alumni stories, their accomplishments and even their struggles.

Associate Director at Biosense Webster | Pasadena, CA

I have stayed close to Caltech ever since graduation (2011, PhD, Biology), both in proximity (I live in Pasadena) and zeal! Professionally, I oversee safety in medical devices which includes touch points with compliance and even finance. I also act as a Director on a few local nonprofit Boards.

During my CAA Director tenureship and as the Vice Chair of Governance, I implemented a more open process for Director nomination to the Board, created new policies for Board oversight, saw the hiring of a new CEO, and connected with an array of alumni across many key events. My fellow Directors commended me for running organized meetings, and driving consensus on difficult decisions. I would be honored to serve again and that the CAA Board nominated me to serve as the Vice Chair of Finance. I would oversee the financial sustainability of the organization and move the CAA towards the use of more metrics to understand the most meaningful impacts and the untapped opportunities. Some in our community incorrectly see the role of the CAA Board as a day-to-day operational position. In actuality, the Board drives the strategic framework and organizational oversight to promote the longevity of the CAA and the greater good of Caltech.

I am hopeful for the future given we put in place proficient leaders able to drive consensus, work effectively with the CAA staff, make sound judgements, and operate with the greater good of Caltech as the impetus for creating a community of connected and engaged alumni.

The CAA needs to improve its ability to provide services to alumni that are meaningful to their personal and professional lives. Limitations on staff size and budget are a challenge for any alumni association to deliver these services, but the remarkably small Techer alumni population makes it especially challenging. The key to success is mobilizing and leveraging alumni volunteers. During my first term on the Board, I believe I was instrumental in moving the Board towards action in this regard as this was my primary goal. If I were to return to Board service, my goal would be to continue this effort to create active local alumni communities by finding and nurturing volunteers who share a commitment to helping alums in the ways they want to be helped, whether it be through social, career, educational, financial, or self-improvement programs. And, looking further down the road, the way to overcome the limitations of Caltech’s small size is to partner with other schools in order to make networking more meaningful to Techers. In turn, the other schools get a premier science/engineering partner with which to plan events. Of course, the key is finding the right partners and crafting the right events. Having already done this more than once within the MIT alumni club system and through Ivy+ organizations, I believe I am well-qualified to move this effort forward at the CAA.

Caltech has been a cornerstone of my life, and my commitment to its community runs deep. Having supported the university through financial contributions, strategic advice, and active involvement, I am excited about the opportunity to serve on the CAA Board.

My primary goal is to steer the CAA towards initiatives that provide the greatest benefit to our diverse alumni community. If elected, I will focus on two key priorities:

Fostering Alumni Connections: Many alumni seek meaningful ways to reconnect with their peers. I aim to enhance networking opportunities and create platforms that facilitate these connections, allowing alumni to engage with one another more effectively.

Enhancing the CAA’s Technology Infrastructure: As the top technology university, Caltech deserves a tech stack that reflects our expertise. I advocate for modernizing our digital tools to better serve our community, improving both efficiency and user experience.

While I will seek broad consensus for such changes, at minimum I can commit to continuously improving the CAA’s operations and supporting our members in finding valuable career opportunities. With experience serving on multiple boards, including the Caltech Associates, I understand what it takes for a board to function effectively. Additionally, I have engaged with a wide range of stakeholders — Caltech presidents, trustees, donors, professors, staff, and, crucially, alumni. This input equips me to develop actionable, strategic plans that reflect our collective needs and aspirations.

I look forward to your support to advance the CAA’s mission and enhance the value it provides to Caltech alumni everywhere. Thank you.

Three years ago, I ran for CAA Board on a platform of improving communication between CAA and alums. Although not all details of my platform were implemented, I believe CAA has become much more transparent and open to feedback during my term. There is now a published, annual process for all alums interested in joining the Board. The Bylaws and Annual Meeting materials are public. The Facebook group has a Board-approved set of rules and an active team of moderators. I regularly surface individual alums’ requests and concerns to the Board, and while the result is not always what the alum hopes for, CAA has acted on some of this feedback. I realize CAA’s transparency and responsiveness are not yet perfect, and I will continue to push for improvements. However, if re-elected, I will primarily focus on CAA’s budget. As our public tax documents show, CAA’s endowment is sufficient to maintain our flagship events indefinitely – but many alums greatly appreciate our other, smaller programs, and the combined cost of all possible CAA activities easily exceeds our annual revenue. We need to set a budget that strikes a balance between keeping CAA sustainable and relevant to our members. This will require increased reliance on alum volunteers, more detailed understanding of what current alums want from CAA, and close collaboration with the incoming Executive Director and the Caltech administration. I believe I now have the knowledge and skills to positively influence this process. I appreciate your vote, and I always welcome feedback.

Increase communication and transparency with our membership (as has been the recent trajectory); and

Assist the new VP/President of the CAA with transition, as well as staff, and ensure that transition is as seamless as possible.

For CAA itself, I hope that smaller regional activities come back with greater frequency. While I understand there are always budget and staff concerns, increasing our volunteer ranks (as we have been working toward) would help quite a bit. I remember when I was a more recent alum how much I appreciated Silicon Valley and SF based happy hours, where alumni would pay for their own drinks and mingle with alumni ranging in age from recent graduate to retiree. I would love to see more things like that return.

The Caltech Alumni Association (CAA) is presently grappling with two substantial hurdles: engaging our time-strapped alumni and budget management. To effectively address these issues, I propose a three-pronged strategy:

Amplify Virtual Engagement Opportunities: we should broaden our virtual engagement options, enabling alumni to participate in CAA activities at their convenience, regardless of their location. This tactic is likely to escalate participation levels and drastically curtail expenses associated with events.

Cultivate Stronger Campus Partnerships: we should strengthen collaborations with various campus entities, including academic departments, athletics and student organizations. Alumni feedback consistently highlights the positive impact these aspects of the Caltech experience had on their lives. By leveraging this goodwill, we can engage alumni in ways that resonate with their experiences and interests.

Explore Tailored Fundraising Initiatives: we should investigate the potential for fundraising campaigns that are tailored to the interests and passions of our alumni. By pinpointing key projects and causes that resonate with our alumni, we can inspire more significant contributions. This strategy not only aids in offsetting operational costs, but also engenders a sense of pride and ownership among alumni.

By fostering these meaningful connections, we can strengthen the ties within our alumni community and further the CAA’s mission. This approach ensures that our initiatives address immediate challenges while simultaneously cultivating a sustainable and engaged alumni network.

This election is a referendum on the direction of the CAA. Key decisions are being made with minimal involvement of the membership and by non-members. This is creating tension, not community. Many pre-1995 alumni such as myself, a long-time donor, are disenfranchised and have stopped giving to the Institute. The CAA’s latest tax return shows total expenses of $11.31 for every dollar of program services provided in FY2022. The expense ratio in FY2019 was 3.14. Yet the current Board chose not to hold an election in 2023 “to ensure continued fiscal responsibility and efficient governance.” The CAA needs new leadership that:

Fight to resume the tradition of combining reunions with a multi-track Seminar Day

Encourage alumni volunteers and minimize use of paid contractors

Improve communication by opening Board Meetings to the members and introducing virtual Town Hall Meetings

Seek a greater alumni voice in Institute policy and increase alumni participation in activities that enhance the student experience

Like many alumni, I disconnected from Caltech after graduation. I had been Lloyd House president, a student athlete, and ASCIT elections chair. Later I realized that Techers are unique, and I identified more with our alumni. I hosted events in Seattle, working with CAA to bring local alumni together and connected them back with Caltech. Later, as a board member and as Vice Chair of Leadership, I worked to make board operations more efficient, bringing more time for work that directly affects alumni. We navigated difficult organizational changes and successfully hired a new executive for the association.

My primary goal as Chair is to serve our alumni by setting up the staff and new executive for success. Alumni look to the board when they feel their needs aren’t met. This is where my empathetic and pragmatic approach is most aligned. This desire for connection can become programming that builds momentum. Together with AAR leadership, we will collectively articulate financial strategies for long-term success. Finally, we need to engage current students as alumni; the board and alumni need to be more visible to current students. As students, we supported each other through difficult problem sets and life events. We can do the same as alumni, growing and connecting our community.

As an experienced research engineer and manager, I have led multiple teams through times of change and uncertainty. I measure my impact in 5-to-10 year terms. I look forward to serving the board and most of all, connecting Techers.

I joined the CAA Board two years ago to increase Caltech Alumni engagement through transparency and enabling alum-to-alum connections. During my two years on the Outreach Committee, we’ve improved the quality of the Facebook discussion group by clarifying expectations. We’ve pushed for the resumption of alumni-led local events with Techers Together, and I am thrilled to have found my local alumni through Tables For Techers. I believe leveraging the power and enthusiasm of the Alumni community allows the CAA to do more with the resources we have. As a young alum (BS 2018), I haven’t always felt like there’s an alumni event for me. I haven’t necessarily been in a position to donate; previously I returned to campus to help with Ditch Day, but there weren’t alumni events. The split of Reunion Weekend and Seminar Day caught me off guard, and I admit I missed my own class’s 5th reunion. I no longer live in a city served by Caltech In…. We need to do better at providing a variety of events, and communicating the full spread of ways to give back. The Vice Chair, Leadership and Outreach leads the Board’s Outreach Committee, and if elected, I will also use my role on the Executive Committee to strengthen communication and transparency around governance (such as election timelines, bylaws changes), finance (clarity on how the CAA gets funded), and all-Board meetings (making Minutes available and searchable). Most of all, I want every alum to feel a part of the alumni community.

In this joint appointment between the Institute and the Caltech Alumni Association (CAA), an independent 501c3 organization, Peraza will lead efforts to nurture relationships with 25,000 Techers worldwide. He will oversee Caltech’s alumni relations program within the Department of Advancement and Alumni Relations (AAR) and work closely with the CAA’s board of directors to deliver meaningful programming, services, benefits, and support to alumni globally.

“Caltech’s continued growth and global impact are tied closely to the support of its exceptional alumni, who engage as mentors to students and advocates for the Institute,” says CAA Board Chair Jennifer Lee (PhD ’10). “As we continue to strengthen and grow the alumni experience, I am confident that Mario’s deep knowledge and “can-do” approach—one that he shares with our alumni—will greatly benefit both the Institute and the Techer community.”

Peraza possesses more than 20 years of experience in higher education, most recently at University of San Francisco where he served as associate vice president, campaign and engagement, managing alumni engagement, special events, development communications, and campaign planning. Before that role, he led alumni relations at University of California San Francisco for nearly a decade.

“As an expert in the field, Mario’s experience will be a catalyst for our program in support of our diverse, global alumni community,” says Dexter A. Bailey, vice president for advancement and alumni relations. “Our goal is to deliver high-quality, dynamic, multifaceted programs and services of value for our alumni.”

Peraza — who regularly presents on alumni relations topics and creates continuing education coursework—was recently placed on the Fulbright Specialist Roster through a competitive selection process. Candidates on the roster of this US Department of State program are matched with host institutions for brief, 2–6 week projects to share their knowledge and build capacity at their overseas host institutions. These projects can also be edifying to the specialists, who bring home new perspectives and insights.

“Caltech’s alumni have made invaluable contributions that have advanced our understanding of the world around us and have amplified the impact of the Institute globally,” Peraza says. “I am thrilled to partner with the Caltech Alumni Association and colleagues in Advancement and Alumni Relations to grow and sustain the cherished bonds between graduates and their alma mater. Our focus will be to foster an engaged alumni community that remains tied to campus where their lifelong journey of curiosity began.”

Peraza earned a BS in chemistry from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Education in higher education administration from University of Maryland, College Park. He began his career in higher education as a residence hall director at The Ohio State University followed by a position as director of the LGBT Resource Center and Coordinator for Student Involvement at George Washington University before becoming director of Alumni Volunteer Programs at University of Maryland, College Park.
