Signature Award Program
What is the Caltech Signature Award?
The Caltech Signature Award is given annually by the Alumni Association to juniors at selected high schools in the US who, during their high school careers, have demonstrated the following characteristics essential to progress in science and technology:
- Innovative and creative thinking or problem solving.
- The dedication to go beyond what is required or expected.
- Curiosity and the joy of discovery in mathematics, the sciences, or in fields with foundations built on these disciplines.
We solicit nominations from schools each year. Usually a math and/or science teacher submits a nomination for a junior at their school who meets the criteria for the award. Each nominated student receives a book that appeals to students who are interested in math and science.
How did we choose the schools?
We began with schools that we have developed and maintained a relationship with over the years. Other schools were added because they have a strong science/math curriculum and we would like to develop new relationships with them. Schools where the award will foster and support outreach activities are also included. Any teacher or counselor can request a nomination form by contacting us at 626/395-6592 or information@alumni.caltech.edu.
Last spring, 247 students from high schools across the country received the award.
