HELP THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
Join Caltech students and help with community outreach! JPL Trail Builders clear hiking trails, the AIDS Service Center supports those infected with the HIV virus, and Union Station in Pasadena prepares and serves meals for the homeless. Get involved! Give them a call at 626/395-6163 or visit Caltech Y.
Docents don't need to be an astronomer or a Palomar expert to apply and will participate in a wide range of activities for the visiting public, including leading tours, answering questions, assisting visitors with exhibits and with daytime observing of the Sun. Visit Palomar Observatory online or call 760/742-1197 for more information.
Pasadena Unified School District
Pasadena Unified is eager to connect Caltech alumni and staff with science teachers. Options include conducting experiments with students; making classroom presentations on a variety of topics such as the solar system, earthquakes, electromagnetism, Newton's laws, and the physiology of the heart; judging science fairs.
For more information or to volunteer, contact Karen Jain of Pasadena Unified at kjain58@pusd.us.
