The Caltech Brain Imaging Center was created nine years ago with a $28 million dollar grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. It is a state-of-the-art facility within the Broad Center for the Biological Sciences housing four different MRI machines. The tour will visit each of the four scanners and describe current research projects, as well as give an overview of the imaging center, its goals, and its future plans. The aim of the research is to understand how the brain develops; how it supports memory, emotion, decision-making, and consciousness; and how it breaks down in disease. These scientific goals are pursued in a highly collaborative environment involving Caltech faculty from engineering, biology, chemistry, and the social sciences.
