1. Two Alumni Receive National Medal of Science
Caltech alumni Berni Alder, PhD '52, and James Gunn, PhD '66, have been chosen to receive the National Medal of Science, the nation's highest scientific honor. They are among nine scientists and engineers selected this year to receive the award, which President Barack Obama will present in a White House ceremony.

3. Nominate a Caltech Professor for the Feynman Teaching Prize
The Feynman Prize for Excellence in Teaching honors a professor who demonstrates unusual ability, creativity, and innovation in teaching. Past recipients include Chris Brennen, Mike Brown, Tom Tombrello and Shuki Bruck.

4. Profile: Lifelong Alumni Connections to Caltech
Are you in a law-related profession? Join the Caltech Law Professionals group on LinkedIn, a subgroup of the Caltech Alumni group. Caltech alumni and postdocs with careers or interest in any law-related professions (lawyers, judges, paralegals, legal analysts, etc.) are welcome to join and connect with one another online.

5. Preview the Annenberg Center for IST
The newly constructed Walter and Leonore Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology (IST) has opened its doors to Caltech students, researchers, and professors. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for October 30th, but a slideshow of the new building is available now:

6. Tech Tidbit: Did you know...
...that 77% of the 2009 graduating class completed a SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship)? On October 17th, over 250 undergraduate students will give oral or poster presentations on their summer research (SURF, MURF, Amgen Scholars, etc.).
