CLARKSTON, WASHINGTON TOPORTLAND, OREGONOCTOBER 8-14, 2016John F. HallProfessor of Civil Engineering Caltech
Our Caltech faculty host is John Hall, Professor of Civil Engineering. Prof. Hall has spent over 30 years immersed in the field of civil engineering with his research emphasis on the complex seismic behavior of diverse civil structures - from concrete dams to high-rise buildings. More recently Prof. Hall has expanded his area of expertise to include water supply issues and has developed a graduate-level course at Caltech that combines hydraulic and environmental modeling of water systems. Prof. Hall is thrilled to share two exclusive talks with guests aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion. He’ll first present a historical perspective on the engineering feats of the locks along the Columbia River while also discussing the consequences of river structures on the environment. An additional talk will highlight water issues in the state of California through the lens of an expert civil engineer.
